Confession Friday. Ish.

Okay, it’s not Friday. But it feels like I have had two Thursdays and gone straight to Monday.

I confess:

  • …that I am not at home.
  • …that at noon on Thursday, BDH phoned and asked if I wanted to go on a road trip to visit his family, especially his father, who has been in hospital for two weeks. And I said yes.
  • …that we got in the car in Guelph on Thursday at 9 pm and drove straight through to Windsor NS, arriving at 6 pm yesterday (Friday).
  • …that we got in the car and drove after a full day of work (BDH) and childcaring/preparing to travel (me). And that was also after a short, poor night’s sleep on Wednesday night.
  • …that I slept for 15 minutes in New Brunswick somewhere. BDH did not sleep at all.
  • …that Stinkerbelle was a champ in the car, and was cheerful and happy and didn’t fuss almost the entire 19 hour trip. And she slept only 3-5 hours.
  • …that we were exhausted on arrival, and crashed hard into bed here in NS by 9:00 pm.
  • …that we got up and out by 9:30 this morning and drove into Halifax to visit Grandad in hospital. And that was well worth the trip.
  • …that it’s always wonderful for Stinkerbelle to visit her grandparents, whom she loves more than she can say. So it’s also well worth the trip for that.
  • …that I am very tired and am going to nap now while Stinkerbelle naps and BDH takes his mom out to buy groceries.
  • …that if I am not online a lot for the next week or so, you will know why.

  1. 19 hours is amazing. AMAZING. Good for all of you for packing the car and just going like that. Sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed.

And many congratulations on having a wee one who is already a world class traveller. Good job, Stinkerbelle :)

    • @Carrie — She was awesome. She talked and sang and hung out with us the entire trip. It WAS a little disconcerting to have her sitting and chatting with us at 12:30 in the morning, but whatevs. She was happy and content, and it help kept Mom and Dad awake and busy on the boring stretches!

  2. We are so happy you are home safe and sound. And all the help at home with mom and the driving and dealing with doctors/nurses is so appreciated. I know you don’t want to move home and you are tired of us bugging you, but it would be so wonderful if you were here. Watching movies, knitting together with a nice cup of coffee, and Madd Dawn and Stinkerbell playing happily together. It brings tears of happiness to my eyes. Oh, and I would hzve someone to run to the yarn stores with and farm markets, etc. But I am sure you would miss Corn Parking.

  3. @Sherri — You love Corn Parking! Maybe you should move to ON and we could switch places!

I wouldn’t rule out a move home for us. It’s just a matter of when. Now? 10 years from now? Retirement? Who can say?

  4. OH man, Sherri is bringing out the big guns there. Hooray for a successful impromptu road trip, but boo to GrandadGrandad still being in the hospital. Hope you have a good visit and an equally smooth drive home!

    • @tafel — Dude. Tell me about it. She’s not the only one. ::looks with shifty eyes at extended family members…::

Hopefully the drive home is as uneventful and easy as the ride here. But I can’t lie, I’d cut someone for a teleporter right about now.

  5. What a trip to do all in one hit. We drove out east one summer, we broke it up into home-Brockville one night, then Brockville to New Brunswick (thru the US) the next day & I am not ashamed to say that the drive nearly killed me (& I didn’t even do any of the driving). I think it was my mother-in-law that did me in (she’s a bit of a scary driver). I hope GrandadGrandad recovers quickly, it’s never good to be in the hospital.

  6. I hope GrandadGrandad recovers really well and fast too.

That’s a crazy drive. Very amazing, and amazing toddler.

    • @Tova — We hope he’s on the mend soon as well. And are also hopeful that the superkid is just as patient and happy on the drive home. But with no Grammy and GrandadGrandad and family at the other end to look forward to… I’m guessing peevish kid will be peevish.
