Confession Friday

It’s Friday, and not a moment too soon, let me tell you. I am ready for the weekend LIKE WHOA.

I confess…

  • …that I am so tired of being tired all the time. I have literally been tired for my entire life. You’d think I’d be used to it by now, and yet? I still go to bed hoping that maybe tomorrow will finally be the day where I wake up and feel rested and energetic.
  • …that I love Netflix so far. I’m excited for them to get it really up and running. MOAR BBC CONTENT PLZ KTHXBAI. And what I can’t find there, if I dig hard enough, I can watch on The Tubes of You.
  • …that one of the most frustrating things about parenting right now is the fact that I spend an hour in the morning doing my daughter’s hair, hoping the style will last for a few days or maybe a week. But then, she takes her peanut butter-covered hands and sticks them in her hair, or spends every moment absentmindedly pulling at her hair and pulling bits of it out of her braids or her puffs, and sticking the ends of her hair in her mouth. It makes me absolutely mental.
  • …that I really, really need to get my eyes checked and get a new prescription for glasses, because the headaches are killing me. But first I need to find a babysitter for Stinkerbelle. Any volunteers?
  • …that I dread the prospect of Stinkerbelle’s swimming lessons beginning next week. ME + BATHING SUIT = NONONONO.
  • …that we made the decision for me not to work and to be a stay-at-home mom knowing that we’d have to sacrifice a little bit to make that happen. But there are times when I miss having the money to do things without having to worry about the budget.
  • …that my husband bought me flowers at Thanksgiving, and there’s a lovely deep red gerbera daisy that is so pretty, I wish I could have gerbera daisies all winter long to bring some sunshine into the house. They’re just so cheerful.
  • …that I have been procrastinating on doing a lot of little things — mailing some parcels, getting some photos framed and put up, finishing some tasks for That Baby’s room, decluttering — and I just have to get off my ass and do. And yet? I never seem to. I have this inertia that’s been so hard to overcome of late.
  • …that I got winter boots for my kid!! While grocery shopping! 12 bucks a pair! Joe clothing FTMFW!!!
  • …that I have been doing a charity knitting project of late, and it was a knit-a-long which means I was trying to keep up with the group (and even so, I was hopelessly behind). Anyway, I was knitting as fast as I could — and now I have calluses on my index fingers from the yarn and needles. It’s weird. It feels weird. But at the same time, I’m all kinda proud and stuff, like this makes me a real knitter, yo. (But in actual fact, it just means my circular needles were just slightly too long for my project and so it was a fight to knit.)

  1. A great big, could have been written by me, YES ME TOO! To the first one and the third last. So true. I keep wondering if I just need a bit more sleep or some other vitamin…

I volunteer for the 4th job that was offered. Babysitting that little one while you get your eyes checked. If only we were closer so I could do it for you. I don’t think either one of us could afford it at this time. Maybe later on.

  3. I would love to babysit for you. I think the communte might get to me though. Are you doing the KAS cuddle? How do you like it? I want to try it but don’t have any wool. I was also thinking of trying it in chunky instead of the double worsted. Miss you folks like crazy. Hugs to all.

  4. Yay! Babysitters abound! Now to just win a lottery so we can afford it!

Sherri, I am about an inch away from binding off my first KAS Cuddle. It knits up so fast, and I love the long tail cast on. I’m even tempted to try the three-needle cast off. It’s been fun. I did mine in a wool/acrylic blend. They’ll take anything warm, really, so I am frogging some old sweaters for the wool blend yarn to use on some more, and I’ll probably do some acrylic as well.

You could easily do one with chunky yarn — people are doing all sorts of combinations, tripling sport weights and combining weights together… I think the big thing is as long as it is warm!

  5. WHAT is a KAS Cuddle?

  6. Tova, the KAS or Knit-a-Square project is a charity knitting project which is very near and dear to my heart. It was started to create blankets for children orphaned by or traumatized by AIDS in South Africa. Both Sherri and I got interested in the project, so we knit/crochet squares which are then sent off to S.A. to be sewn into blankets and distributed to kids in need. Sometimes people will make hats and sweaters and other things which are sent off as well.

The KAS Cuddle is an extension of the project. A need was seen for warm bedding for babies 0-9 months old so it’s basically knitting a sleeping bag for infants. So I signed on to do some KASCuddles and had mentioned it to Sherri a few weeks back.

It’s just a way for people to make a little bit of difference while doing something they love to do. It doesn’t take much time or effort but it can make a big difference in a child’s life.

  7. I admit it. I’m one of those white parents that trims my daughters hair short. One, I think she’s freaking adorable with her little head of curls and dare anyone to argue otherwise. And two, when it gets long enough to tangle, she just HATES having it combed and cries until these big pitiful tears stream down her cheeks. And three, the peanut butter fingers that you mentioned in your post. Always, ALWAYS go in the hair.

It’s just not worth it to me to grow it out and deal with styling yet. We condition and keep it in good shape, but that’s it. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be worth it to you or anyone else. But I just can’t bring myself to put us all through the stress.

So what I’m saying is kudos to you for giving it a go. I’m just not there yet. Maybe when she’s, like, sixteen or something.
