Friday Fun: Home Alone

BDH has gone to Michigan for business, so I’ve been home alone since yesterday afternoon! WHEE! Okay, so no big parties or anything…mostly I’ve just been faffing about on my computer. That’s when I’m not getting the housework done.

But being home alone can be cool sometimes! Sometimes it’s just fun to be able to do whatever you want, whenever you want. So today the Friday Fun is about being home alone.

  1. How often do you get a day all to yourself?
  2. What would be the perfect way to relax if you had a day to yourself?
  3. What is your favourite solitary activity?
  4. Do you get nervous when you are home alone at night?
  5. What would be the perfect meal as a treat if it was just you?
  6. What are two tasks you’d work on if you had the uninterrupted time?
  7. Tell me two things you’d do for fun if you could spend the day out and about by yourself, if money allowed (within reason, of course).
  8. Your philosophy: sing like nobody’s listening, or dance like nobody’s watching?
  9. What’s the most self-indulgent treat you’ve ever given/done for yourself?
  10. What should I make myself for lunch?

I’ll get back to you, after the girls and I have a good long nap. And maybe a dance party.

  1. 1. Never!
    2. I actually like doing little projects around the house or refinishing a piece of furniture. For things like that I actually need a long weekend. I also like to just read a book from start to finish.
    3. Reading. When I was younger I used to read all night long and then “veg” at school.
    4. Not really. When there is a thunderstorm I can get a bit nervous. One summer I had a job at a highway restaurant. I had a small cabin to myself (no toilet or shower). I got scared when we started to have bears come around but I got over that.
    5. I have to admit that I am a McDonald’s junkie when I am by myself. McChicken Combo is my choice but I always share it with Darby Dog.
    6. This is when I clean out my closet. It is also when I begin painting. Right now I am in the middle or redoing our front foyer. Almost done – just have to put the new trim on.
    7. Well I would love to spend a day at a spa. I have never done this but I think it would be a treat. I think that every once in a while we should pamper ourselves. The most I have done is get a mud wrap but that only took about 1 1/2 hours. I want the full day treatment! I also love to look at second hand furniture stores or antique stores. Garage Sales are normally things I do on my own but that is more because people don’t want to wake up early on Saturday morning to go to them!
    8. I sing more than I dance but I don’t do either very well.
    9. I guess I would have to say that mud wrap thing. It was pretty self-indulgent.
    10. I like the idea of a big salad with cheese, apples and hard boiled eggs.

Am I really the first one today?

  2. Well since everyone is off doing doG knows what, I’ll jump in now and give my answers!

    1. Since I am not working, I get every weekday to myself. But hopefully, that will change soon.
    2. A perfect day would be one where my house is totally clean and I can sit outside and read and write. Big pot of coffee in the morning, and some lovely baked goods for breakfast.
    3. I love to read. I have done, ever since I was very small.
    4. Yes! Because of course someone will come and murder me in my sleep.
    5. All day breakfast.
    6. If it was cool enough, I’d garden. If I had time AND money, I’d also get some rooms painted and finish the basement.
    7. I’d go buy a bunch of books, and maybe go spend a day up north at a cottage or resort. Someplace quiet.
    8. Clearly, I am a sing-like-nobody’s-listening type of girl. I reckon this explains Opus’s significant hearing loss.
    9. When I was young and single thin and hip and debt-free, I’d go and buy a couple thousand dollars worth of clothes and shoes. Usually tie-dyed and batik frocks, and tights, and mary janes… I was very hippie-chic back then.
    10. I’m waiting on your suggestions, because what I had today? Just didn’t cut it.

  3. 1. Rarely, although I usually manage to get a few hours to myself here and there, and that’s always appreciated.
    2. Reading, eating, having a bath, spending too much time on the Internet.
    3. Does sleep count? I know there’s usually someone else in the bed with me, but I’m not exactly aware of how much company I have when I’m unconscious.
    4. Only if our doorbell decides to go off of its own volition, which it does with depressing regularity if I’m the only one home.
    5. Crispy bacon, eggs sunny-side up, Earl Grey tea, toast, maybe a couple of those delicious little breakfast sausages…
    6. Sorting out my eyebrows into an attractive shape and getting more sleep.
    7. I’d take Weasel on a shopping spree during the day (and maybe get a couple of pairs of shoes for me, you know, since I’m out and all) and then have a girl’s night at the excellent pub by my house, magically making friends from all over the world appear.
    8. The singing thing.
    9. Erm… I once bought myself two purses I didn’t need, but they were on sale 2 for $10, so I’m not sure that counts.
    10. All day breakfast.
